How to setup Windows 11

Step 1: Reset

Whether you just bought a new machine, or are looking to refresh an existing Windows 11 machine, the first step is always to completely reset your Windows 11 installation to its factory defaults:

Note: Don't forget to backup important data.

Open start menu, search for "Reset this PC", select it.
Click on "Reset PC".
Select "Remove everything" option in the next prompt, proceed with reset.
After the reset completes, setup your account.

Step 2: Debloat

Run the Win11Debloat utility:

Note: The default settings are pretty good, but I prefer to customize the behavior to understand the changes that will occur.

Open start menu, search for "Terminal", right click and select "Run as administrator".
Select yes, then paste the following command and press "enter":

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

This is an optional step for software engineers, if you're unfamiliar with WSL, you're done!

Follow the official instructions, if that doesn't work, download & run the WSL installer from Github releases.

Before installing any packages make sure your package manager is updated: sudo apt update

Nautilus (file explorer): sudo apt install nautilus
FSearch (fil search): sudo add-apt-repository ppa:christian-boxdoerfer/fsearch-stable && sudo apt update && sudo apt install fsearch
Chromium (web browser): sudo snap install chromium
btop (tui process manager): sudo apt install btop
gnome-system-monitor (gui process manager): sudo apt install gnome-system-monitor
ttyd (terminal over the web): sudo snap install ttyd --classic
